The links you create at ****** and other sites are kept on those services' servers. When they go down, your links go down, and they're no longer accessible by anyone. When you create a link with Shorty, the link remains working and available so long as your domain is working.
Furthermore, you can login to organize, edit, and delete your Shorties. You can even get your own Shorty RSS feed.
What do I need on my server to run Shorty?
The server will need PHP 4+, MySQL 3.23+, and Apache 1.2+. You will need Firefox, Safari, or similar. Sorry, but no Internet Explorer support just yet.
Is Shorty free?
Shorty is free. You can use it as much as you like for as long as you like—and we hope you do! But if you find yourself using Shorty often, we hope you'll make a donation of US$10 or more to help us continue working on it.
